The beginning

I thought that it was never going to happen, it seemed like something that would happen at some point in the future but it didn’t seem possible anytime soon.

Was I wrong!

It all happened when I took an elevator to the third floor. She had a big smile and happy eyes. “What perfume are you wearing?” she asked.

“Chanel Chance” I replied.

And the rest was history. Turns out that we were both going to a networking happy hour on the same floor. Seven weeks later we were signing the papers buying our first house. The elevator lady became our realtor!

It was a whirlwind and a stressful one at that, buying a foreclosure is no easy ride but it was sure worth it. With supportive parents and a faithful God, the sale went through. It was quite the cliffhanger, we didn't know we were closing until three hours before we actually closed, it truly was a miracle.

Four and a half years ago I said I do, I hopped the pond and moved country, since then my husband and I have lived in three different states.  To say we were unsettled would be an understatement!

But we had a plan, a dream; white sandy beaches and sunshine were calling us. Ten months ago we moved to Sarasota Florida and quite frankly we feel like we live on a postcard.

Florida

End of story you may be thinking, on the contrary! The story has just begun.

We wanted a house that was downtown and a hop skip and a jump from the beach. Oh wait I forgot to mention that we were poor and that we live in a desirable up and coming city riddled with people who have more money than sense (I’m not kidding, they push dogs around in strollers).

So what to do? Give up?

No!

We took a risk and bought a fixer upper house on the edge of the ghetto (18 blocks from downtown).
I will confess- I was nervous about the idea at first. But our street is a diamond in the rough with neighbors as sweet as honey.

Our three bedroom 2 bathroom house, definitely sits with the rough in the analogy, not the diamond.

And that is exactly what this blog is about, documenting the transformation of our ugly duckling house into a beautiful swan.

I am so glad that you are coming along for the ride, it’s time to make this house a home!
